The Revolutionary Body Clock!
There is nothing I love more than when Modern Medicine catches up with the teachings of Ancient Medicine. Eastern Medicine relies on a system where specific organs self regulate at different times of the day. This body clock has been used to diagnose and treat for thousands of years, and is especially helpful with sleep issues. π β―οΈ
During a 15 year study of the impact of light on the health for more than one billion people, it seems that we now have substantial evidence of how our internal clocks transmit their timing information AND how our organs read time and do different tasks at specific times!!!!!!! π€―π€―π€―
As you see in the image of the Eastern Medicine clock, each organ has a period of about 2 hours in which it is "on" and processing. Notice that the Liver time is between 1-3am. This is one of the most common times for anxiety insomnia. π©
I call it anxiety insomnia because it seems to be a wakeful time where we spend an hour or two (or more!) laying in bed thinking about any possible stressful issue that we could possibly bring into our heads instead of sleeping. When that happens it is a sign that the Liver is imbalanced and unable to process and detox correctly. This is just one area where this helpful clock can be used in the treatment of so many issues. We can use this clock for so much thanks to the teachings of Ancient Medicine! πͺπ½ππΌππΏ

Insomnia Tips with Dr. Jessica Parker
Insomnia is weird and confusing. π΄
I think itβs really hard for our bodies to naturally just get a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. π€This is something that has been introduced and basically forced since the dawn of electric lighting and it puts a lot of pressure on our poor parasympathetic system! ππ§π₯ππ³The 5 Elements in Eastern Medicine can certainly shine a light on which organ systems need support depending on the time that we wake up in the middle of the night, but I also think that it is totally natural to have a regular witching hour (or 2). Our ancestors gave themselves a span of 10-14 hours to get those 8 hours, and it was very common for people to wake up, process thoughts from the previous day, get a snack, drink some water, have sex! They probably even gave themselves time to nap in the day! ππ½ββοΈππ»ββοΈ This just isnβt as practical in our busy society and the overlap makes that middle of the night insomnia so stressful. How many times have you laid awake with anxiety about not sleeping? Itβs the worst! It may sound easier said than done, but Iβve found that trying to just let myself have that awake time when it comes has totally changed my anxiety around sleep. π
Counting sheep has never worked for me, but the more I just let my witching hour be a time for me to process rather than stress about not sleeping, Iβve actually found that Iβm sleeping better and more soundly these days. β€οΈ #sleep
