WHOLE-PERSON CARE SINCE 2009
A trusted Oakland practice built around your goals
Whether this is your first time trying acupuncture or you have been getting treatments for years, our team is ready to listen to your goals and build a plan around them.
Root & Stem was founded by Dr. Jessica Parker, a licensed acupuncturist with a doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. She trained at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, completed an advanced internship at Zhejiang Medical Hospital in China, and finished her acupuncture residency right here in Oakland at Highland Hospital.
Readers voted her one of Oakland's best acupuncturists, and she continues to serve as Executive Director of the East Bay Integrative Pregnancy Project. That background shapes everything we do at the clinic, from how we listen during an intake to how we build a treatment plan that fits your life.

WHAT WE TREAT
Support for the concerns that affect your everyday life
Acupuncture can support a wide range of conditions, and our Oakland team sees patients for all of the following.
-
Pain relief & recovery
Pain relief is one of the most common reasons people book with us. We treat back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches, migraines, arthritis, fibromyalgia, menstrual cramps, sports injuries, and pain related to cancer treatment, often combining acupuncture with cupping and deep tissue work.
-
Women's health & fertility
Women's health and fertility are a core focus of the clinic. Dr. Parker and our team work with patients managing irregular cycles, endometriosis, and PCOS, as well as patients trying to conceive, going through IVF, navigating pregnancy and postpartum recovery, or moving through menopause. Many patients come to us because of Dr. Parker's experience in this area.
-
Hormone, stress & whole-body health
Hormone balance and stress support round out our most requested services. Acupuncture can help with sleep, anxiety, mood swings, and the ups and downs that come with shifting hormones at any stage of life.
MEET YOUR OAKLAND TEAM
Experienced practitioners, personalized care
Four practitioners give Oakland patients multiple ways to find the right fit for their care.
Dr. Jessica Parker
Dr. Jessica Parker leads the clinic with a focus on women's health, prenatal care, liver health, and integrative support during cancer treatment. She believes strongly in treating the whole person rather than a single symptom, and she works to give her patients a supportive place to heal.
Andrew Eng, L.Ac.
Andrew Eng, L.Ac. brings more than sixteen years of experience to the clinic. He combines acupuncture with deep tissue massage and energy work, and he has a special interest in helping active people recover and perform at their best. Andrew also works with other healthcare providers to help them avoid burnout, so he understands what it means to care for people who spend their days caring for others.
Nyah Blais
Nyah Blais leads our Holistic Fertility Program, supporting patients through every stage of the fertility journey with a blend of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and lifestyle guidance.
Dr. Joseph Weissbuch
Dr. Joseph Weissbuch, L.Ac., DAIM, rounds out the team with a doctorate in acupuncture and integrative medicine, bringing a broad clinical background to conditions ranging from pain to internal health concerns.
Together, this team gives Oakland patients more ways to find the right fit for their care.

-
Relaxing rather than painful
Most patients describe acupuncture as relaxing rather than painful. The needles used are thin, and many people fall asleep during treatment.
-
Forty five to sixty minutes
Sessions typically run between forty five and sixty minutes.
-
Additional techniques when useful
Your practitioner may suggest cupping, herbal medicine, or other techniques alongside acupuncture depending on your goals.

That depends on what you are treating. Some patients feel relief after one or two visits, while ongoing conditions like fertility support or chronic pain often call for a series of weekly sessions. Your practitioner will talk through a plan at your first visit.
